CULTIVATING DREAMS

Set on a small farm in the heart of Dutchess County, Cultivating Dreams provides a fun, skill building experience with a strong emphasis on agriculture activities, pre-vocational skill building and community inclusion. People being supported through Community Based Services, Inc. (CBS) have the opportunity for hands-on experiences gardening, growing fruits and vegetables, and taking care of small animals. 

Cultivating Dreams is a place where people with autism and other developmental disabilities can partner with their community and build something to be proud of. The idea of seedlings in a greenhouse, fresh vegetables waiting to be picked, and eager students working to learn new skills is a reality. Cultivating Dreams continues to evolve. In addition to activities on our recreational farm, our participants are involved in related volunteer opportunities through Dutchess Outreach, the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, and a local senior centers. Everyone needs to feel like a valued part of their community.

The future holds much promise for our fledgling farm. Spring will usher in a whole new season. Small shoots of garlic will be the first to emerge on the hillside overlooking our new greenhouses. Anticipation of the first planting day is growing. A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) plan is on the schedule and the team is very excited for the arrival of their first customers. New beds are being planned for the vegetable garden and pumpkin patch, both of which will be doubled in size from last year!

Since 1981, CBS has offered reliable, quality supports to people with disabilities throughout New York’s Hudson Valley region. Our programs provide a safe and nurturing environment to accommodate each person’s preferences. Each of our programs works to involve the participants in activities that contribute to skill development and community integration. Our committed staff are well trained to meet the needs of each person they support.

Our comprehensive group Day Habilitation Without Walls and Certified Day Habilitation day programs offer door to door transportation and engaging activities. Every person is offered individualized opportunities for exercise, recreation, volunteer work, nutrition awareness, social skills and safety training in community-based settings. We provide Vocational programs, Community Habilitation, and At-Home and Site-Based Respite. Additionally, our certified residential settings offer people 24-hour support, 7 days a week in co-ed and single sex homes.
