A time capsule in honor of World Autism Awareness Month was created by people in the Without Walls (WOW) program at the farm.
To promote awareness and inclusion, the participants of WOW first created a poster titled after Dr. Seuss's famous quote, “Why Fit in When You’re Born to Stand Out?” Each person wrote their thoughts about autism on a puzzle shaped piece of colored paper. The puzzle pieces were placed on the poster in interlocked fashion, indicating strength of unity.
These same puzzle pieces, along with a LoHud newspaper article dated March 31 and a CBS brochure were packed into the time capsule.
The time capsule was buried by the King Crimson Maple tree planted last August in celebration of CBS’s 40th anniversary. By the tree sits a rock with a plaque inscribed with the words, “If it can be conceived, it can be created.” Join CBS and Cultivating Dreams Farm in imagining and creating a world where all people with autism and other disabilities can reach their full potential.
Every April, Community Based Services celebrates World Autism Awareness Month with a kick-off on the United Nations sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. This year’s theme, creating a world where all people with autism can reach their full potential, aligns perfectly with the agency’s mission.
It will be exciting to experience how far the world has come when the time capsule is opened on CBS's 75th Anniversary!
